South Africa
I have had the honor and privilege of doing a number of ethnographic studies in South Africa, including studying people in Khayalitsha, the urban Xhosa township outside Cape Town, SA, and in the "bush" of the rural Eastern Cape, SA. These have been extremely important for the clients and for me. By shaking up the preconceived (and racist) notions about the people in these areas and their activities, these studies have contributed to a more nuanced vision of South Africans, and, ultimately it would be hoped, a better understanding of their needs.
